Most 3D virtual worlds and good online MMORPG games can be identified as hardcore, casual or a combination of both. Be warned now: Life is Feudal is a HARDCORE MMORPG!
A hardcore MMORPG is themed around reaching an identifiable end goal. Hardcore games normally target individuals who play pc rpg games as a major, or primary hobby. Hardcore games are produced with the mentality of “Games are supposed to be won”.
Hardcore MMORPG’s centers around completing achievements or in-game events such as raids or sieges. This also requires the individual to be knowledgeable of the online world and game mechanics to progress. Hardcore MMORPG has a longer learning curve and is generally more complex.
A casual MMORPG is one that focuses on having fun RPG games, rather than achievements. The target audience for these types of MMORPGs are those who have limited time to spend on gaming, perhaps viewing it as a pastime with the mentality that: games are meant to be enjoyed.
Identifiable features that define casual mmorpgs are: Little to no time required to reach end game content, requires simple and repetitive actions to progress and requires little to no knowledge of the mmorpg to progress. This generally revolves around in-game activities that can be picked up and put down.
The key differences between a casual and a hardcore MMORPG can be summarized as: difficulty and complexity of the gameplay content featured in that MMO. Life is Feudal strives to balance hardcore and casual play styles, and the mixture to be chosen is left up to the players themselves, but most players will find LiF to be a hardcore MMORPG.
No player is forced to conform to either playstyle, neither are you required grind levels or assets to become useful or competitive. More information on deciding playstyle at Choosing playstyle in new mmo Life is Feudal: no set classes.
LiF gameplay is quite different from mainstream casual online mmorpg games, and can be considered hardcore. YOU’VE BEEN WARNED!
