This is probably the most fun sandbox game I've played, ever. I initially opted to start solo on my own locked instance; just to learn the ropes, learn the UI and the crafting. I figured that would allow me to survive more easily when I moved to a PVP server. I expected it to be a learning experience, not a fun one. Actually it turned out to be so much fun that I got all carried away in the crafting and forgot to check out the multiplayer experience.

This is probably the most balanced sandbox builder I've played to date.
✞JMullins- Beware the Zeitgeist
Your skill tree is complex without being OP as you don't just gain ridiculous typical MMO quality stats. For example, if you want to build something, you need to first begin with forestry. To get your forestry levelled up you need to inspect trees/take bark/branches from them (which you can use along with stone you gather from terraforming to make tools) and then when your forestry is high enough you unlock logging which allows you to begin on chopping down trees. This leads to carpentry which of course allows you then to begin preparing the logs properly for contructing your buildings by sawing out the necessary boards of different sizes. You or someone else is also required to have the knowledge of forging which is about the 5th skill in the mining skill set, so that you can make nails.

Life is Feudal is a complex sandbox box, with a very open world
Paladin
Life is Feudal is a complex sandbox box, with a very open world. For those of you that remember it, it's VERY akin to the old Star Wars Galaxies (pre NGE). Pro's: -Complex Crafting system. -Fantastic system to socialize, as it is impossible to pick up every skill -Complex skil system that allows you to try new things, grow into new skills, and forget them if you don't like them. -Fantastic challenge rating for skills: Easy to pick up, time consuming to master. You can grow, loot, and craft high quality materials. -Great graphics. Really nice visuals on higher settings. -Terraforming: Push over minecraft, you can literally level landscapes, dig siege tunnels, and build ramps. Or just flatten terrain so you can build a city! -City building: Akin to SWG, you can drop down pre-generated structures, tools, build roads, claim ownership. -Nothing is worth doing that doesn't take time to do: This whole game takes time. It's not a fast paced, get your guns in a day and rule the world. BUT... it is fantastic, and well conceptually well designed.

At 90 hours in, I have to say I'm really enjoying this game
Temsik Red
At 90 hours in, I have to say I'm really enjoying this game. I joined it as I love any type of world builder game. I'm a crafter at heart. This game doesn't disappoint on that front. The crafting system is extremely deep and can be complex, with long item trees. Farming, to animal husbandry, to carpentry, etc. I'm definitely in my element there. What I wasn't expecting was finding myself on a server with a very robust social game. Kingships and Dukes, and wars, and strife and witches in the bogs. It's been great watching and being a part of what really feels like a living breathing world. I'm looking forward to seeing what the next few months bring to this new game!

If you enjoy the fruits of labour and enjoy carving out your own patch of land then ...
SquidLord
This game is hardcore. Nothing is handed to you and everything can be taken. Very well rounded system and the combat system will really surprise you. Tech trees have specal abilitys and once you rebind your keys and move the action bars around a bit it really feels like your playing an mmo. 10/10 50h played in 4 days. If you enjoy the fruits of labour and enjoy carving out your own patch of land then this game is for you.

I have not found one in this similar era/style, to be better.
Marco
I only have 60 hours or so of play-time recorded, but around 55 hours of those 60, I had been playing Life Is Feudal with people I never even gamed with before. By this, I simply mean that while at first not knowing / understanding much, I came across one person, then a couple more people, etc, until eventually (my favorite moments in the game) this group of ours had owned a small farming/fishing/trade village. Needless to say, the very first 6 hours or so of game-time was quite unfamiliar and I had a lot of help. But from that point on, I realize now that there are probably slim-to-none other games that can replicate what Life Is Feudal is about. What do I mean? How can I say that (with only just one review/little experience)?

I began as a peasant and am now a warrior
Kalarak
I began my life as a simple peasant with no particular skill. I woke up on the shore of an island and soon found my place in the world with a small tribe that will one day be called the Southern Veil. We become allies with the neighboring town of the Sweetcottons before we are even able to erect a palisade wall. Soon after we gain these close allies we are rode upon by members of a place called Killian's Keep. They tell us that we must pay them a tax of straw. We refuse and militarize ourselves. 10/10 would blacksmith again

I'm going to let you all in on a little secret about this game...
RIP R6-D9
The following is a personal anecdote taken from my experiences playing on Role-Play Community: Life is Feudal (RPCLIF) server. In this community heavy RP is enforced and any event done otherwise is punishable. Day 1: I have finally made my way into the realm from a nearby beach, it has been a while since I have visited the Isle of Maldath. I gather berries and herbs and begin to train myself in the ways of the gatherer.
